Our first day of homeschool for the 2020-2021 school year was on Monday. We were all excited to get back into the rhythm and routine of school.
I decided to document the first day of school photos I took of my kids for the August Template Challenge at the Lilypad.
Each year I take photos of our family and my kids individually on the first day of school. Some years I make a printable sign for them to hold with their grade on it, but this year I decided to use a letterboard and I loved that. It was admittedly much easier than making a sign.
I decided to use photo strip frames from an element pack rather than the frames included in the template. I also decided to only use one photo strip instead of the two that were on the template. I duplicated the photo strip and placed them so that one was peeking out underneath the other to provide some layering.
This year more than ever, I am thankful for our decision to homeschool. We haven’t had to make any of the stressful school decisions many families are facing right now, we’re able to just keep on doing what we do.
To make our first day special, we decided to get a little dressed up.
We’re excited to have my husband join us at home (at least for part of this school year) as he is still working from home. It’s been fun to give him a glimpse of what we do everyday and see what his work looks like as well.
Elizabeth Anne and Mary Catherine are in the 10th grade this year. It is hard to believe that, but alas, it is true. They are delving into lots of classical literature and Chemistry this year. I’m excited for them to read some of my favorite works of literature and I’m looking forward to being there to support them where they need it in all their subjects. They are great independent learners, which is the ultimate goal at this point in homeschool.
Will is in 8th grade this year. We’re working towards getting ready for high school this year. He is growing up into such fine young man with lots of responsibility. He has a great outlook on life and I love hearing his perspective on so many issues. He is a true delight.
And my baby, Jenny, is in the 5th grade this year. She is super excited about that because she says it’s the grade she’s always looked forward to the most. She is an absolute ray of sunshine and makes everyday fun!
We are all looking forward to a new year of learning and growing together!
